Based on your consultation, our doctors can issue new prescriptions and renew existing prescriptions; they can also provide sick notes for school or work for short absences. Can I get a new prescription or renew a prescription with MedOnline?
Yes. If appropriate, our licensed doctors can issue a prescription at the end of your consultation; it can even be sent to your pharmacy of choice. Our doctors’ prescriptions are accepted by pharmacies throughout Canada; your medication will be prepared and made available for pick-up or delivery by them.
Can I get a sick note or doctor’s note through MedOnline? Yes, during booking your appointment you can request the doctor provide you with a sick note and they will send you one via secure message. This note is stored in your account under both secure messages and past visits.
Do I need to schedule an appointment?
MedOnline is designed for on-demand care, so an appointment is necessary. After you register and log in to MedOnline, doctors who are available for a same-day visit will appear on the search results with the soonest closest appointments on the top. You can browse doctor profiles and select who you want to see by scheduling an appointment. If no one is available for an appointment on the same day, you will be able to schedule an appointment for the next day/week at your convenience.
Is my online consultation private and secure?
Yes, absolutely! We feel it is of utmost importance to maintain patient privacy and keep private health information secure. Our app was developed to protect patient privacy and provide a secure tool that is compliant with PIPEDA, PHIPA and HIPAA; this allows you to safely and confidentially consult with a doctor online.
What technical requirements should I keep in mind when using MedOnline?
If you’re using a mobile device, we highly suggest leveraging a high-speed WiFi to ensure an optimal experience (and avoid data charges).
For internet connections, your network should be performing at 15 Mbps or better. If you do not have access to a network with that performance capability, you will have the option to shut off the video component and conduct your consultation using audio only.
Do I need to create an account to consult a doctor using MedOnline?
Yes, you need to create an account before you can speak to a doctor using MedOnline. The account creation process is simple and takes just a few minutes. We recommend you set up your account now so it’s ready when you need it. Once your account is created, you can use the mobile app or the MedOnline website to schedule an appointment using the same username and password.

Does it cost anything to use MedOnline?
In most cases, your provincial health care plan covers the costs of the services being delivered by MedOnline. In circumstances where that wouldn’t be the case, our doctor will let you know so you can decide how best to proceed.
